Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485)

Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485) is for international students who have recently graduated with either a degree from an Australian education provider or international students who have graduated with skills and qualifications that are relevant to specific occupations that Australia needs. On this visa, you can live, study and work in Australia temporarily for up to 4 years. 

This visa has two streams:

Graduate Work Stream

To apply for this stream, international students should have recently graduated with skills and qualifications relevant to specific occupations that Australia needs. Usually, the maximum stay time on this stream is 18 months. To be eligible, the applicant must have met the Australian Study requirement in the past six months before making the visa application. In addition to this this, the applicant must have qualification relevant to an occupation in the skilled occupation list, have positive skill assessment outcome for that qualification, and be less than 50 years of age. The applicant must also have an evidence of language ability (each band 5 and overall, 6 in IELTS or equivalent).

Post-Study Work Stream

To apply for this stream, international students should have completed a CRICOS (Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students) registered degree from registered Australian education providers. This visa allows the applicant to live, study, and work temporarily in Australia from 2 to 4 years, depending on the qualification the applicant has completed. To be eligible, the applicant must hold an eligible visa, meet the English proficiency requirement, and be less than 50 years of age. Furthermore, the applicant must meet Australian Study requirement in the past six months before making the visa application. The qualification you have completed must be an eligible degree which are bachelor’s degree, bachelors (honours) degree, master by coursework degree, masters (extended) degree, masters by research degree or doctoral degree. Completion of standalone diploma or trade qualification will not quality for this stream of Temporary Graduate Visa.

In addition to this, this stream is only available if you applied for, and were granted, your first student visa to Australia on or after 5 November 2011..
